Are you dreaming of fresh-picked veggies and herbs just steps from your kitchen? My garden to table workshop will prove you can do it. Trust me, designing a thriving garden is easier than you think!
This workshop is free to any FQ Story neighbor that wants to grow your own vegetable garden. I only have room for 15 participants – first come first serve!
January 11, 2025
10am – 1pm
FQ Story Historic District in Downtown Phoenix
In my garden to table workshop, we will cover the basics of starting your garden or enhancing the one you already have.
Garden To Table | Where to Start
- Sunlight: Veggies and herbs need plenty of sun! Find a spot with 6-8 hours of direct sunlight.
- Water: Easy access to water is key for consistent irrigation.
- Soil: Get to know your soil type. A soil test can reveal its secrets.
- Space: Measure your area and consider existing landscape features.
Plan Your Spring Season Crops
- Climate: Choose plants suited to your growing season.
- Favorites: Grow what you love to eat!
- Variety: Mix it up with different plant types and growth habits.
- Companions: Explore beneficial plant pairings – basil and tomatoes are the best of buds!
Design For Optimal Garden To Table Harvest
- Style: Rows, raised beds, or containers? Choose your own adventure.
- Spacing: Give plants room to grow.
- Sketch: Draw a simple plan to visualize your garden.
Time to Get Growing
- Prep: Clear the area and amend the soil with compost.
- Build: Construct raised beds or trellises if needed.
- Plant: Plant with care and water thoroughly.
Garden Maintenance Tips
- Water: Water regularly, especially during dry spells.
- Weed: Stay on top of weeds. Mulch helps!
- Fertilize: Feed your plants for optimal growth.
- Protect: Monitor for pests and diseases.
Enjoy the Fruits (and Veggies) of Your Labor!
Remember to harvest your bounty at its peak, savor the flavor, and share with loved ones! Your veggies may not grow as large as those at the grocery store, and that’s perfectly fine! Homegrown produce is all about flavor and nutrient density over size. Plus, smaller vegetables can be just as delicious, if not more so, since they’re fresher and grown with care. Focus on quality and the satisfaction of cultivating your own food!
