What an outstanding monsoon season we’ve had this year! My plants appreciated the rain, humidity, and lower summer temperatures. While I will spend most of August preparing and tending to my established garden, there are still some plants that are happy to start fresh this time of year. One of many reasons I love the low desert is how many opportunities and seasons we have for planting!
PKG Bonus Tip:
In August, avoid planting larger more establish plants and instead stick to seed starting or smaller transplants.

PKG August Garden Tips
August as a great time to seed start in the ground, but if you’re starting indoors I recommend using water trays. I find water trays helpful because you can water from the bottom so the seeds do not get disrupted. With any reusable pots, be sure to clean them between seed starts to prevent pests and disease. In addition, make sure to label your seed starts! It can be difficult to discern what kind of plant new seedlings are, and labeling them will help to decide the right location to transplant them in your garden.
